Gulf High School graduating senior.
Minimum 2.50 GPA (unweighted).
Maximum 3.50 GPA (unweighted).
Show evidence of financial need.
Must plan to attend an accredited post-secondary institution.
Demonstrated school and community service through volunteerism, committee or club involvement.
Separate essay with the topic: Describe a challenging situation you experienced during your time at Gulf High and how you overcame it.

The recipient will be selected in February and announced in March of 2006. I will keep everyone apprised of the results.

Additionally, there were some people who expressed a desire to donate but did not have their checkbooks at hand... well good news! We can continue to receive donations for the scholarship. Depending on the additional amounts received we can either increase the value of our single scholarship, or offer a second scholarship. Either way it will unexpectedly bless the recipient.

It was a wonderful time at our 20th reunion. I was delighted to see so many of you whom I might never have actually called a friend in high school and to learn about what you've been doing with your lives since then. It is true to a certain extent that you never outgrow your roots. Thanks to Inga and Hilda and anyone else who got the ball rolling and put it all together. I will try my best to be at the picnic in Sept. and to see those I missed the first time around. My Summer is offically over and I have just begun my first year at Stetson University College of Law. I can not believe I was able to get in and now I have the chance to take one more step forward in life and open a completely new chapter. Hopefully I can visit with you and if not then may I be able to shake your hand and speak with you at the 30th as a full fledged practicing attorney.

Glad to hear everyone had a great time at the reunion. Wish I could of been there, but with starting a new job, it wasn't possible. Too boot my daughter Elizabeth got really sick that night, so someone was making sure I was home.

I have seen a few pix from the reunion and was wondering if anyone would be posting a photo link on this site for those that were unable to attend this time around. I saw one group pic but was unable to make out some of the faces.

Also, is there a final word on the day and cost of the get together over Labor Day weekend?? What site is that info posted on??

We are living back in NPR and hope to be here for awhile. I have been blessed to reconnect with some high school friends recently. I guess, no matter how antiquated this place felt "back then", it will always be home to me.

Second, I want to say a great big THANK YOU to all of those who have donated to the scholarship fund and those who have given verbal committments. To those who had checks to give me, I am sorry I didn't get to you to get them, but please send them to the address below. With what we have collected so far and the verbal committments, we will be well over $1000 (hopefully double that if not more). I will be using the info provided by Reunion Celebrations to mail out letters to those classmates not in attendance, but if you happen to get a letter and you were there, feel free to donate again :)

Also, who's bringing kids? We have a 9 1/2 hour drive so we might bring our two oldest 13 & 11 1/2. I thought it would be fun for them to hang out with some of my friends' kids. If no one else is bringing kids they might me left at home. I just to do that since were not taking them on Kurt's Class Reunion CRUISE.

As you are aware there has been a lot of discussion on giving back to Gulf High and the community. One of many good ideas was the establishment of a scholarship in the name of our class for a graduating Gulf High senior (or seniors depending upon the level of participation). I have talked with the guidance counselor at Gulf High and she expressed a high need for scholarship money, even with the state sponsored Bright Futures program. She directed me to the Pasco Education Foundation and after discussions with their executive director, I am happy to announce we have set up the Gulf High Alumni – Class of 1985 Scholarship. Hi Class of 85!

Various websites seem to have info in bits and pieces about the reunion. It seems I find there is a new website cropping up all the time, so please understand we aren't aware of every website discussing the reunion. We have been planning the reunion for months now. Feel free to pass this info on to your personal discussion groups! I placed a post on the official Gulf High Alumni site last month and hope that reached many of you.

Everything for the reunion is underway and you will all be receiving information in the mail in the next week. I've hired a company to locate and organize reunion signups, and they tell me 91% of the class has been located. But, if you are concerned or would like to be sure your information is correct with them, please go to reunioncelebrations.com and fill in their student forms. Also, please pass this info on to any classmates you think might be hard to locate.

The reunion will be July 15 - 17 at the lovely Innisbrook resort in Tarpon Springs. There will be a Friday night event, Saturday night cocktail dress-up with dinner and dancing, and afternoon events Saturday and Sunday for the kids.

Accomodations for travelers can be had at the Best Western Palm Harbor, which is waterfront, reasonable and quite nice. Rooms at Innisbrook might not be as easy to come by that weekend. Hotel information will be included in your mailer.

The Des Little Stadium sign was taken down in the Hurricanes last year and needs to be replaced. If this is something that is chosen, the class of 1985 would be listed on the sign as a contributor.

The school has been wanting to put up flags from around the world in the commons area. They have requested funding from elsewhere, but it was denied. The flag kits cost about $25.00 each.

They are also adding a Career Resource center to the front of the building, funded by the Penny for Pasco. They will need help with Resource items (book series, etc) once it is completed.

Mr. Imerson said he will contact me with more ideas as they come in, and I will keep everyone else posted.

When my brother and I were seniors at GHS, we wanted to go on one of the senior trips (Project Graduation at Busch Gardens), and, because there were two of us, and times were tight in our home due to our dad being terminally ill, we chose not to even ask our parents about going. Thankfully, some of our closest friends were aware of the situation, and their parents got together and helped out. It was an amazing time, and my parents were never made to feel bad about it all....infact, they felt quite blessed.

What are everyone elses thoughts on this??

That simple thought generated quite a few suggestions on how we can "give back." One idea was to set up a fund in which reunion and non-reunion participants can contribute and the proceeds would be used to aid some of the worlds neediest people in our classes name. Another idea was to contact Gulf High to see if there were any needs the school has that we could provide through a collection of funds. A third idea was to again collect funds to offer a scholarship or multiple scholarships to financially deserving Gulf High graduating seniors. This scholarship would also be in the name of the Gulf High Class of 1985.

If anyone has other ideas they feel strongly about, please bring them into the light. If interest is great enough, we could surely accomodate multiple projects.

I will accept charge of organizing the scholarship. I have already been in contact with a foundation affiliated with the Pasco county education district that currently administers scholarships. I will post more information as I get things set up.

And as a reminder, reunion is July 15-16 at Innisbrook. Maybe a round of 18 on the Copperhead course Saturday morning/afternoon followed by emergency room visits for heat stroke. I'm bringing my high handicap, 3 extra sleeves of balls and Solarcaine. Anyone else?

I also had a suggestion and that is to sort of "nominate" Jerry Rossman, Melanie Procter, and perhaps Rusty Asble to head up and coordinate the "give back to the community" effort - IF they are willing!!!! Evidently the big formal shin dig is being planned but we are being given scant information.... though I posted the Reunions Celebration website (company that coordinates class reunions) address below. SO we can all register with them so they know WHERE WE ARE! (Some of us have our personal information hidden from public records....)

Otherwise, about the Labor Day idea....I just talked to Analisa and she booked a shelter (#1 at Howard Park... near playground for all our little ones...) for Sunday AND Monday of Labor day weekend. We can firm the day as it gets closer. SO, we are having a labor day weekend picnic anyway! It isn't taking the place of anything... just it's OWN get together for those who can and want to join in the fun. There seems to be a lot of interest in an informal picnic from the emails I got, so let's go for it!

I'm thinking as the weeks pass, we'll need to start a sign up list of sorts for covered dishes, chips, napkins, sodas, cups, hot dogs, hamburgers, etc. or perhaps we want to make it a like, $5. per person and go from there?

I personally think it's a little more fun for those to bring their favorite picnic recipes to share.... rather than the normal Publix Deli items! But.... put your two cents in and we can collectively decide.

Does someone want to volunteer for TRACKING those who say they can attend the picnic....? That way we'll have a running list of who is expected and how our numbers are going for both food/drink purposes among other things!

Again, I'd encourage you all to write to those you think might not be involved in this forum and let them know the BALLS ARE ROLLING (and they might squish one of us!)

So far a lot of folks like the labor day idea is popular and I luv it.... gather your clan...Let's gather everyone we know, let's schedule a picnic. How 'bout we SHOOT for Labor Day weekend (unless the reunion is that week...How does Saturday 9/6 sound with a rain date of 9/11? I don't care if we do it at my house (I can manage about 70ppl fairly comfortably if we also use the yard. OR of course, park option is good too. little clean up...but what ever. I heard a lot of interest in a picnic at that time and for those who responded....what do you think? Hell I'm blocks from Madeira Beach, we could REALLY make an outing out of it. Fireworks too are phenomenal on the beach as you can see many other cities.... Possibility? CHEAP possibilities.

I talked to Gulf High staff and was told that Reunion Celebrations has told them they are planning a reunion for Class of 1985. I checked out their website, www.reunioncelebrations.com and I see a Gulf 1985 reunion listed, but dates and locations are TBD (to be determined). Their phone number is 813-874-9967, with pretty normal business hours.

Everyone can register your name & info with them online, so hopefully we'll get the information we need as well as assisting them in knowing where we are and getting the information THEY need.

There are a lot of us out here who want to help, and hope Hilda et al will contact us.

Ok, I'm gonna vet... I realized since one of my best friends went to school in Boston (1985 grad) and they are having their 20 yr reunion this summer.... Obviously WE are not... But, I don't know if this has been verbalized before, but what if "we" (those who are interested and REALLY CAN WORK ON IT...) tried to get a weekend picnic together or something of that sort? It doesn't have to be a full scale formal reunion, but obviously there is interest on this board and I can't help but noticing, NO ONE IS IN CHARGE! (And yes, that includes me too!)

I don't even KNOW who, IF ANYONE is supposed to be coordinating this... I see a lot of names of people who aren't communicating in this arena.

I'll be honest, I'm a little annoyed - pardon my frankness (SOME things never change!) HOWEVER, I can't help but sit here and notice that we have seen nothing SUBSTANTIAL and nothing is materializing. I see a lot of info about Inga but is it all really her responsibility? AND THEN, if they can't manage to plan a 20 yr reunion, does this mean we'll never HAVE another reunion????

Whatcha think? If a handful of us got together via email (or WHATEVER....) to put our heads together and try to figure out where everyone is or NEARLY everyone.... Maybe we could get a Labor Day picnic or something along those lines going. We have time for Labor Day, it'd still be summer and if anyone travels, they'd most likely have an extra day...

IF everyone brought a covered dish & some chairs, maybe we could charge a small fee for hot dogs/hamburgers/sodas, napkins, paper plates, etc.... we'd have it together good enough to get to mingle and not just let the time pass by... It wouldn't cost us much. Ok, some will have to volunteer to clean up afterwards and of course the PRE PLANNING, but we could go from there OR we can consider maybe trying to plan an event at a hall. Still, I think a park is the best bet, but not in the dead of summer!

Bottom line is no one is TAKING charge, in a manner by which we can recognize or look to.... in which case, I say, if so many of us are interested, must we wait for others to take action - and maybe we are sorta "wrong" for doing so?

Just letting you know that reunion plans are underway!!!!!!!! HOORAY!!!!!!

I have it on good authority that Inga has indeed started the ball rolling, Hilda (Font) Martin is involved, and they will be forming a local committee soon.

For those of you that were working on getting prices and stuff, I guess you can hold off for now til the committee is formed. But I want to thank all of you who were willing to go the extra mile to try to make things happen.

For those that I have had contact with regarding reunion stuff, I hope we can continue to keep in touch and that we will see each other at the reunion.....20 years has been too long!!!!

I received an update from Michele Corby, who through the grapevine has found out some reunion info. This is part of what she wrote:

"I have heard through Chris McFarland that Inga Stanelin has indeed contacted reunion celebrations and we are supposed to be receiving an initial contact letter trying to locate people. "

She added that she has someone local that may be a better option than reunion celebrations...maybe less costly. She is offering her help to Inga, who is out in California. I know that we need tons of help guys. We all want a reunion, we all need to do what we can to get it going.

Please get addresses, e-mails, whatever info you can on our classmates, so that they may be contacted. The more help we get, the easier it will go.

I appreciate you looking into Reunion celebrations. I have postings on all the sites for alums to hooked up to one of the sites, but more for them to tell their friends to get on one of the sites. I believe there is a way to register through the school as well. I am still waiting on something from Michele Corby, to see what she and/or Michelle Kessler has from the 10 year. I think the 10 year was like 75 per person.

Thanks for all you have done to keep me on the right track, and keeping my spirits up about this. I just hope after all this, that I can go.

I have been in Maryland for 6 years now. Before that, London was my home for 3 years with a brief time in Spain, working with Youth with a Mission, helping homeless people as well as HIV/AIDs victims.

I have been married for 7 years now to the most perfect man in the world, Ramon. We own a small car dealership here. I also work full-time for the State of Maryland. We have 7 cats, 1 dog - a chow, and a cockatiel. We both love children, but some women are not designed that way I guess, as our kids are the animals.

First let me say WOW!!!!! All these responses and positive e-mails I have received are so encouraging. I even received an e-mail from someone who has been following our saga. I will attach that to this message at the end.

Michael, Thank you for being so understanding. You have always been a great guy. In junior high, I counted you among my nearest and dearest. Your note reminds me why. I like the idea of maybe waiting a year, but we may not have to. Also, thank you for the kudos on the monetary considerations.

Lynn, no worries about answering after awhile. I am just glad you did....all of you.

I have e-mailed with Michele Corby Chamberlain. She lives near Michelle Kessler Guy. Michele C thinks Michelle K (G) may have some of the 10 year papers. I do not know that Michele will head it up, but she seemed willing to help, and I think THAT is the biggest thing....having people to work together. I am willing to do what I can from TN (within reason of course). I do not think I will be anyhwere near Florida beofre next summer. We are a class of 488 I believe. Surely we can get a group together.

None of these locations have an on-site caterer. That can really help keep the cost down since catering prices tend to be elevated in local hotels & country clubs. However, that means that you have the extra task of finding someone to do the food but there are so many catering options in Pasco & Pinellas.

I am not even sure how many attended the 10 year, but I bet this one will be bigger!! I know there are reunion organizers out there. Maybe we have someone in our class who is an event planner by profession that can give us a discount (or do it free???????).

Another suggestion...get all those we know to at least register their addresses with this website, www.classmates.com or www.classreport.com/usa/fl/new_port_richey/ghs/1985

The more we register, the more people that know about the efforts to get something together. We all know word of mouth is the best advertising.

I believe we can pull this off....

Can someone local please look into those places and see what is available for the summer?? I do not know where my 10 year memory book is or maybe we would be able to gauge what the attendance was/could be.

Hey Liz, yes it looks like you are getting off to a late start, but still may have an awesome reunion...

First thing you need to do is recruit volunteers. The main thing we concentrated on was finding people. We thought we did a good job and tried to cover as many bases as possible but did not reach all of the masses.

Suggestions: www.classmates.com, GHS alumni website, newspaper ads, word of mouth (you'd be amazed at how many of our alumni were still in Pasco), going through the phone book, check out any records retained from the 10 year reunion (did you have one?).

I'm packing up right now getting ready to go to Orlando for New Year's, but I'll be able to help some more later this weekend. The biggest thing you could do right now, while everyone is still in the holiday spirit is to RECRUIT, RECRUIT, RECRUIT volunteers.

Try and communicate with Lori Erigo-Katz. She is the communications rep for the class of 1984. I am sure she helped to get their reunion planned and from what they told me, it was GREAT! Beyond that I am not sure but like Jeff said, most people will need to request vacation time as soon as possible for this weekend. I hope you've all had a Merry Christmas.

I can't believe we'll be having our 20 year reunion in just one more year.... I'm actually looking forward to it. There have been so many changes over the last 20 years, except for the fact that I'm still living in New Port Richey!! Just turned 37, I'm in the Real Estate biz, I have a beautiful 12 1/2 year old daughter named Miranda, and a terrific man... his name is Richard... we've been together for 8 1/2 years now.

I look forward to seeing as many Alumni as possible next year (2005) at our 20 year reunion!!
