The Gulf High School Buccaneer Band has been serving the New Port Richey area for 80 years. With its beginnings in 1925, the band has strived for excellence in music and to improve awarness in the fine arts.
One of Gulf High's most well-known band director was Robert O. Lampi, who was an advocate in music in the state of Florida, served as President of the Florida Bandmasters Association from 1969-1970, and was named Executive Secretary until 1983 when he was replaced by Past Executive Director F. Lewis Jones. Mr. Lampi then served as a consultant until his death in 1985. Because of his hard work and dedication, the superior rating award for district concert bands is named in his honor and Mr. Lampi is a member of the FBA Hall of Fame.
