Movie Composer Subject Of 2008 - 2009 Halftime Show
Music from one of today's most popular movie composers will be the focus of our exciting new show coming to football fields in the Fall. Composer Danny Elfman has given his talents to many modern movies and our Marching Buccaneers will be performing his music to area audiences. The GHS Band will be performing the following medley of Elfman's music: 'Spider-man', 'Tales From The Crypt', 'This Is Halloween' and 'The Oogie-Boogie Song' (from the movie 'The Nightmare Before Christmas), 'Ice Dance' (from the movie 'Edward Scissorhands'), and the theme from 'Beetlejuice'.

Buccaneer Band Visits Atlanta
The GHS Buccaneer Band boarded a charter bus and headed north up I-75 to Atlanta, Georgia on April 17-20th, 2008. 60 students and chaperones took the journey that included tours of the Georgia Aquarium, the World of Coca-Cola, Hard Rock Cafe, the Cyclorama, and a stop at Stone Mountain National Park which included a public performance by the GHS Concert Band. The trip was a great success and the students experienced and learned many things about Atlanta.
Pictures will be posted soon (as there are over a 1000 to edit!) as well as a DVD video will be available for purchase by the end of the school year (for a small fee).
Thank you, students, for a great trip! We look forward to Washington D.C. in 2010!!!

GHS Band & Guard Members Excel at MPA
February brought solo and ensemble season to the Gulf High Band Room and many of our students have been very busy to improve their talents. The GHS Jazz Ensemble, 'Jazz Fusion', received an overall 'Excellent' rating at their annual FBA Music Performance Assessment. This was the highest rating given at this year's assessment. To hear our performance, please click here. We would also like to congratulate our award-winning color guard for receiving their 12th 'Superior' rating out of the past 14 years! For more info on this performance as well as a few others, click here to visit our Color Guard webpage. Congratulations also go to our flute trio of Ashlee Hazel, Amanda Spencer, and Kaci Wooten (along with student accompanist Brian Ziegler) for receiving an 'Excellent' for their performance. This is the first time this group has performed together and we are very proud of them!

'Duality: The Battle of Good vs. Evil' Brought To Halftime
The award-winning Gulf High School Marching Buccaneers brought heros and villans to area football fields as they presented their halftime show for 2007-2008 entitled 'Duality: The Battle of Good vs. Evil'. The GHS Band performed music from theater and films dealing with the epic struggle of 'good guys versus bad guys'. Selections were the following: 'Duel of the Fates', 'Imperial March' and 'Yoda's Theme' from the 'Star Wars' movies, 'Raiders of the Lost Ark', 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone', and 'No One Mourns The Wicked' from the Tony award-winning musical 'Wicked'.
The band took the show to their annual Florida Bandmasters Association's District 5 Marching Performance Assessment held at River Ridge Middle/High School on November 3rd. After performing to their very best, the band walked away with an overall 'Excellent' rating. The Marching Bucs were rated in the following catagories: Music 1 (Excellent), Music 2 (Excellent), Marching & Maneuvering (Superior), and General Effect (Superior).
