IHHS Mission Statement

The Institute of Health and Human Services aspires to facilitate students on a journey of self-discovery in which the tools of integrity, self-worth, compassion, self-discipline, personal responsibility and intellectual curiosity will empower them to face the world as productive participants, responsible citizens, and life-long learners.


What is IHHS?
The Institute of Health and Human Services is a program within Gulf High School designed for students interested in health-related careers and careers in the field of human services. This Learning Community was initiated in 1996, with the Class of 2000 being the first group to graduate from the program.

What is the purpose of this program?
The purpose of this Learning Community is to explore professions in the areas of health and human services and to prepare students to pursue any of a wide variety of professional, technical or direct-entry positions in these fast growing fields.

Which students would benefit from IHHS?
Any student with interests in the following areas would benefit from the IHHS Learning Community:
Scientific: enjoy doing research: veterinarian, pharmacist, laboratory tester, environmental meteorologist, et al.
Authority: protecting people and property: firefighter, law enforcement and security, correctional officer, private investigator, police detective, et al.
Accommodating: providing personal and customer services to meet the needs of people: recreation activity leader, bus driver, flight attendant, cosmetologist, bellhop, restaurant server, social director, et al.
Humanitarian: helping people with mental, spiritual, social, physical or career concerns: child care worker, dental hygienist, physical therapy, nurse, member of the clergy, teacher, athletic trainer, counselor, et al.

Social/Business: communication of ideas and information: librarian, interpreter, funeral director, financial manager, paralegal, lawyer, technical writer, et al.
Physical Performing: performing physical activities before an audience: coach, athlete, umpire, et al.

Will a student be eligible for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program?
Yes, a student may be eligible for one of the Bright Futures scholarships, depending upon his or her selection of courses, grade point average and college admissions test scores

Can Marchman programs he incorporated into this Institute?
Yes, students interested in Marchman should consult their guidance counselor. Marchman courses count as elective credit and IHHS will align with any of the following: Criminal Justice Assisting, Cosmetology, Early Childhood Education and Commercial Foods.

Which electives would benefit the student?
Career Research, Child Development, Foreign Language, Nutrition and Wellness, Principles of Food Preparation, Psychology, Sociology, Law Studies, World Geography, Key and Business Skills, Comp and Business Skills, NJROTC, Medical Skills and Services, Health Science 2, Allied Health Assisting 3, Physical Education.
