Gulf French students excel at Congrès

GULF HIGH SCHOOL, March 20, 2006. -- Gulf's French students who participated in Congrès March 16-18 won a trophy by coming in fifth place in the state in their division.

James Loop, Adriana Palacios, Emily Bahr, Jonathan Munoz, and Michael Goldberg earned a superieur for the play Tartuffe by Molière. Paul Flagg, Stephanie Clark, and Eliora Bruschweiler earned an excellent for a skit. In the area of poem recitation, Stephanie Hull level 1, Lauren Crosby level 2, Jacqueline Ramsey Level 3, Emily Bahr Level 4, and Adriana Palacios Level 4, all earned superieurs. In reading comprehension, level 1 Stephanie Clark earned excellent, level 2 Aimee Bushong a good, Level 3 James Loop a superieur. In Vocabulary, Thomas Flannery earned an excellent. In Impromptu Speaking, Eliora Brushweiler earned an excellent for level 1. Lindsay White an excellent for level 2 and Jonathan Munoz, superieur for level 3.

Gulf students competed among 1500 French students from around the state. Madame Currelly said that this is the first time Gulf students have won a trophy by placing at Congrès since she began taking students there in 1994.

Congrès is the Florida state French competition held in Orlando. It was established in 1953 to raise the interest of high school students in the study of the French language and culture. Gulf was the only school from Pasco County which participated this year.
