Empathy Lab

GULF HIGH SCHOOL, Aug. 26, 2006. -- Mrs. Lowry’s clinical class participated in an "Empathy Lab" today. Students discovered that even walking to a familiar location when blindfolded was difficult. They went up and down the front ramp in wheelchairs, and found this required more upper arm strength that they thought it would. Finally, they were strapped down to a gurney and taken through the hall and on the ramp. While on the gurney they found out how frightening this ride could be. Mrs. Lowry hopes this will help them to develop empathy for their future patients with disabilities.
