Saying good-bye to Mrs. Kuperis

GULF HIGH SCHOOL, Feb. 2, 2007—Today was Mrs. Kuperis' last day at Gulf, and other English teachers, administrators, and students stopped by after school to wish her well. She and her husband George Kuperis have decided to retire. He is a history teacher at River Ridge Middle School and today was the last day of school for both Kuperises. Sonia Kuperis, who taught sophomore English this year, has taught for 36½ years. She and her husband, who have two grown sons in Canada, live on a boat docked at Tarpon Springs. They retired earlier, in 2000, and subsequently sailed to Alaska through the Panama Canal. They then decided to return to teaching, and Mrs. Kuperis joined the Gulf faculty in 2000. Recently, they decided again to retire. Mrs. Kuperis says that they plan to cruise the Caribbean and that their dog Piety will go with them, but she adds, “All our plans are written in sand at low tide.” Replacing Mrs. Kuperis will be Dr. Jessica Share.

Dr. Jessica Share (in the pink shirt) will replace Mrs. Kuperis.

There was a pirate theme on Mrs. Kuperis' last day.

Mrs. Kuperis bequeathed her pumpkins and the book The Complete Idiot's Guide to Grammar and Style to other English teachers.

Students signed this giant card; Mrs. Kuperis bequeathed a wreath and The Memoirs of Cleopatra to lucky teachers.
