Cleaning up in New Port Richey

NEW PORT RICHEY, April 19, 2008.—The nationwide Keep America Beautiful annual event was in gear again and several Gulf High students participated in the local Keep Pasco Beautiful component of the effort. Gathering early this morning, the group spent four hours gathering trash from a New Port Richey road known for illegal dumping. Interested in making a bigger impact than a roadside-litter cleanup, the students gathered four truckloads of refuse, which included building materials, furniture, household appliances, a toilet, and several tires.

The most sad but interesting thing they found was a live hamster in an aquarium, which was swiftly adopted.

These kids are to be commended for their self-motivation and obvious effort to improve the community in which they live.
