Students and faculty wear ID badges
Students and teachers at Gulf High School are wearing photo ID's this year. In the photo to the left, Charlyn shows off her picture.
The main purpose of the new badges is for safety. Anyone who doesn't belong on campus will be noticed because he or she will not be wearing the photo-ID. But the ID's are also bar-coded and can be used to order lunch and check out books from the Media Center.
The ID's also identify which students are seniors and thus are eligible for senior privileges.
Students were issued their badges at the beginning of the second semester. Faculty and other staff members were photographed during teacher planning week, and had their ID's at the start of the school year. There is no charge for the badges, although there will be a charge for a replacement badge if the first one issued is lost.
The ID badges were approved by the Pasco Couty school board for all high schools this year. The equipment to make the badges was provided by a Miami-based company.
