Gulf Calculus students win at county math contest

Gulf High School's calculus team took first place in the Pasco County School District's annual math contest, which took place at Marchman Technical Education Center on April 8.

The team, which was picked by Mr. Okun based on after-school practice sessions, consisted of Russell McCloud, Jonathan Heppner, and Jason Dunn.

In the individual rankings, Russell McCloud was the top calculus student. For placing first he was awarded a Texas Instruments TI-89 advanced calculator and a trophy.

In a separate competition for the small number of students in Pasco County who are enrolled in second-year calculus, Melody Goodenough placed second.

Gulf High School students also competed in the Geometry, Algebra II, and Precalculus divisions. Middle school students competed in Arithmetic, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra I.
