Students beautify the campus and learn environmental concepts

Gulf High School students in Mr. Stobbs' second and third period classes and in the NJROTC program recently completed a project to beautify parts of the school campus and learn environmental concepts.

The project came about after Gulf High School was named a recipient of a grant by the Southwest Florida Water Management District called the Florida SchoolYards program.

The program funded a learning area that features a landscape using native plants, low maintenance ornamentals and water-saving irrigation techniques. Local environmental experts also taught and promoted concepts of environmental landscape management and pollution prevention.

The on-site coordinator of the program at Gulf was Mrs. Coburn.

The pictures below show students at work, and some of the results of their efforts.
