Eight Gulf students travel to France during the summer
Gulf High School teacher Mme. Currelly and eight students in her French classes spent a week in France during the summer. The students visited Paris, Normandy, the D-Day beaches, and castles in the Loire Valley during their trip, which took place May 31 through June 6. They spent three nights in Paris.
Mme. Currelly, who makes the trip about every two years with some of her students, said they enjoyed the history and culture of France and enjoyed the food. The students were able to practice their French speaking skills. She said the students found the French people they met to be friendly.
The students flew from Tampa Airport to Newark, and then on to Paris. Many of them had worked part-time jobs to pay for the trip.
Mme. Currelly said the trip to France improves Gulf's French language program by making the language come alive. Students generally find people in France similar to themselves, but they enjoy learning about differences that exist. She said that after returning to the United States, many of the students express a desire to travel to other countries. She said she wishes she could take all of her students.
