Kathie Harsch joins the Gulf faculty
GULF HIGH SCHOOL, Nov. 13, 2003 -- A new teacher has joined the Gulf faculty. She is Kathie Harsch, a former Gulf Middle School teacher.
Mrs. Harsch had taught at Gulf Middle for six years. She was the head of the Language Arts department there.
However, most recently, Mrs. Harsch taught at Deerwood Academy, a charter school which recently closed because of declining enrollment.
She said she enjoyed teaching at Deerwood, in part because the parents were very involved in their children's education.
At Gulf High School she teaches ninth grade Language Arts, eleventh grade Language Arts, and one section of American history.
She joined the Gulf faculty after the 2003-04 school year had already begun, when it was determined that the number of students enrolled at Gulf exceeded projections and an extra teaching position was authorized.
Mrs. Harsh holds a B. A. in English Creative Writing from USF. She says that in her spare time she writes poetry and stories. She is also working on a screenplay.
With her employment, one new name is added to the list of Gulf teachers and administrators who graduated from (or attended) Gulf High School. The list follows: Mrs. Teeple ('76), Mr. Serletic ('83), Mr. Snyder ('65), Dr. Gallagher ('72), Mr. Rutherford ('88), Mr. Barrus ('74), Mrs. Donlon ('91), Mr. Dewalt ('90), Mr. Wiemer ('87), Mr. Wiest ('92), Miss Bittenbender ('98), Mrs. LaBarbara ('88), Mrs. Harsch ('83).
