Gulf's HOSA chapter is very active in 2002
Mrs. Plumitallo's Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) adopted a needy family and made contributions of food, clothing and toys. The spirit of giving spread through the school, resulting in 100 donors participating at our first Blood Drive of the year. There were healthy snacks, prizes and health screening activities at the event. Anyone interested in giving the "Gift of Life" is welcome at our next Blood Drive on May 8th.Our students have chosen to be a team in the "Relay for Life" Event on April 19th. We have been busy with fundraising activities including a Saturday car wash and a faculty "Pie in the Face" contest. All proceeds go to cancer care.
At the HOSA Spring Conference held at HCC, our students proudly won the chance to continue competing at the State HOSA Conference in Jacksonville April 4th. This is a great opportunity to demonstrate the activities of this "Outstanding HOSA Chapter."
Mrs. Plumitallo has set high expectations for the senior Health Occupations students. They are focusing on three main areas of health care:
- The Physical Therapy Aide
- The Pharmacy Aide
- The Certified Nurse Assistant
The program provides a solid knowledge and skill base to continue education, and to climb the career ladders in each of these health care fields.
The class was given the privilege to reinforce classroom C. N. A. skills by working at Orchard Ridge Nursing Center. On a daily basis, we could see that the staff takes pride in their patient care and delivers the quality we all expect.
Now while at Morton Plant North Bay Hospital in New Port Richey, the students are exposed to several departments, giving them exposure to a variety of health careers.
Our students are on the way to successfully preparing to meet the workplace demands of the future!
