Heather Fiorentino and Mike Fasano speak to seniors
in the Media Center.
GULF HIGH SCHOOL, May 23, 200 - Two members of the Florida legislature from west Pasco county spoke to students in Mrs. Schreier's Economics classes and Mr. Feldman's Government classes on May 23.Rep. Heather Fiorentino represents District 46 in west Pasco County, and Rep. Mike Fasano represents District 45 in central Pasco county and part of Hernando county.
Mrs. Schreier said that all of Gulf's students are represented in the Florida House of Representatives by one of the two speakers.
She also explained that students in her classes had earlier asked questions of their government representatives in writing, and had completed an assignment that required students to write to their representative on a pending bill or an item in the budget.
One of the pieces of legislation mentioned by the speakers involves students in Pasco County, but not this year's seniors. A bill passed by the state legislature this year encourages the use of a uniform grading system in high schools so that the minimum scores for A, B, C, and D, are 90, 80, 70, and 60. The change will go into effect next school year, however.
Both teachers' classes met in the Media Center for the presentations.
