Kyle Myers, a senior at Gulf High School, won first place in the county math contest in the advanced calculus division, which is the highest level of mathematics taught in the Pasco county schools.

Only a small number of students in the county take the second-year calculus class. At Gulf, Kyle is one of only two students in Mr. Okun's second-year calculus class.

In the regular calculus level, Gulf's calculus team of three students finished second out of the nine high schools in Pasco county. The team consisted of Megan Rashid, Kevin Seeber, and Sal Torre.

Sal Torre took second place individual in the regular calculus level.

Gulf's precalculus team of three students took third place out of the nine high schools. The Precalculus team consisted of Kevin Lindenmayer, John Heppner, and Igor Geyvandov.

The annual Pasco County math contest was held on April 25, 2002, at Marchman Technical Education Center in New Port Richey.
