![]() More teachers join the Gulf faculty
GULF HIGH SCHOOL, Sept. 22, 2005. -- With our student population growing, Gulf was authorized to hire additional teachers after the school year began. Patti Keep will teach Biology, Biology Honors, and Integrated Science. She formerly taught at Hudson High School for three years. She holds a B. A. degree in Biology from Greenville College in Greenville, Illinois. Ms. Keep was born in Hastings, Michigan. She has five adopted children. Daniel Scaringi will teach Spanish and reading. He worked in the Manatee County school district for twenty years, teaching Spanish, ESOL, and serving as an assistant principal. He also taught in Paterson, N. J., for five years. He has an Ed. S. degree from Nova University in Fort Lauderdale. He was born in New York City and came to Florida in 1982. Art Schai will teach Social Studies classes and reading. He taught geography to sixth grade students at Powell Middle School in Brooksville for three years and has also taught in Indiana. He was born in Topeka, Kansas, and has a B. S. degree in social studies education from Indiana State University. He also attended Purdue University. He says his hobbies include playing guitar. Victoria Mudry is the Reading Coach. Her primary responsibility will be modeling reading strategies to teachers and students. She previously taught at Harry Schwettman Education Center for one year and at Hudson High School for six years. At Schwettman, she obtained a $53,000 Florida Learn and Serve Foundation grant to allow 50 students in grades 6-12 to research and produce pamphlets about the history of eight city parks. The students also produced a guidebook on how to effect positive community change. Mrs. Mudry was born in New York. She has a B. S. degree from USF in Finance and has a reading endorsement and is certified in ESE education. She has two children, a daughter attending St. Leo University and a son at Bishop Larkin Catholic School. Eric Starkey will teach Intensive Reading. Mr. Starkey has often been a substitute teacher at Gulf during the last 18 years. He is a graduate of Florida State University and served four years in the U. S. Army. On November 19, he will marry Miss Tara, a volunteer at Gulf. His mother also teaches at Gulf. |
