GULF HIGH HEALTH OCCUPATIONS
Mrs. Plumitallo's Health Occupations students began their school year with an emphasis on work ethics, quality of care, and communication. The curriculum is designed to strengthen the alliance between school and industry and to cultivate quality health care workers needed for the future. Local health care facilities provide a connection between school-based learning and work-based learning. This gives Health Occupations students an opportunity for career exploration and job preparation. The course is also designed to prepare its students for a clinical CNA rotation at Orchard Ridge Nursing Center.
HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) is the career and technical student organization which supplements and complements the health occupations curriculum. This year Health Occupations students joined with Nutrition and Wellness students to host a "Wellness Fair" which reached over 300 GHS students who are members of the IHHS, (Institute of Health and Human Services), Learning Community. HOSA continues to keep its members busy arranging other special events by linking their school and community resources.
The class of 2003 demonstrates great enthusiasm and creativity. To celebrate National HOSA Week, Health Occupations clinical students created an in-school TV news presentation of the classroom clinical area called "GULF WING". During Homecoming Week, HOSA members sponsored Penny Wars and participated in the New Port Richey parade by creating a float representing the theme "Hollywood DOC's".
These activities were just the beginning of a very exciting year!
