Mr. Okun helps juniors prepare for the PSAT

Mr. Okun Gulf High School math teacher Arnie Okun conducted the first session of his annual PSAT prep seminar on Sept. 26.

The popular program is designed to acquaint students with the Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test and to offer test-taking tips.

About 70 students attended the first session, which took place in Room 256 during periods 2, 3, 5, and 6.

When the GHS website looked in on the seminar during fifth period, Mr. Okun had just completed a section on how to tackle PSAT analogies, and was offering tips on how to come up with likely definitions of unfamiliar vocabulary words. He also provided advice on what types of PSAT questions warrant more time, and whether or not guessing on a test item is a good strategy. He then moved on to a review of basic topics in geometry, suggesting that most math questions on the PSAT are not very challenging.

The second Okun session is scheduled for Tuesday, October 1, during the same periods. The PSAT will be administered on October 15 during periods 1, 2, and 3, in the 300 Building.
