Judge Debra Roberts speaks at Gulf

Judge Debra Roberts GULF HIGH SCHOOL, Feb. 25, 2005. -- County Judge Debra Roberts spoke to selected juniors and seniors today in the Activity Center.

Her talk was scheduled during Black History Month. She told students facts about a number of notable black Americans, including at least two from Pasco County.

Debra Roberts was appointed County Judge by Gov. Jeb Bush in 2002. The first black judge in Pasco County, she was subsequently elected to the position by voters in 2004.

Before she became a judge, she worked for seven years as court counsel for the 6th Judicial Circuit, serving as chief legal adviser to judges and court personnel on issues ranging from employment to ethical concerns. Before that she was a senior staff attorney at the Florida Supreme Court. She graduated from the FSU law school in 1985 and also holds an advanced degree in social work.

She was born in Sanford, Florida.
