One Publix employee in each division (Atlanta, Jacksonville, Lakeland, and Miami) received the Mr. George Community Service Award this year, and a fifth employee won the award from the company's support area. Mr. Singletary won the award for the Lakeland division.
The winners receive a trophy, three days off with pay, and $5,000 which they donate to the community organizations of their choice.
Mr. Singletary chose to contribute the majority of his award to Gulf High School, which will use the money for the athletics department.
According to a news release from Publix, "His involvement in the local merchants association and chamber of commerce led him to his work with the Chasco Fiesta, a countywide fund-raising event in Pasco County that benefits more than 30 local non-profit groups. Beyond the fiesta, Singletary has made a great impact on the youth of Pasco County." He has been a supporter of Gulf High School, which his children attended.
