New Notre Dame Athletic Director coached at Gulf
Aug. 24, 2000 - Kevin White, who had been athletic director at Arizona State, was named the new athletic director for Notre Dame in March 2000. The appointment was announced by Rev. Edward A. Malloy, C.S.C., Notre Dame's president. Father Malloy introduced White at a news conference in the Main Building on the Notre Dame campus.
Under the realignment of athletic administrative responsibilities announced in February by Father Malloy, White became the first Notre Dame athletic director to report directly to the University's president.
White took over the new job in mid-April. He previously had been athletic director at Tulane University, the University of Maine, and Loras College.
A native of Amityville, New York, White earned a Ph.D. in education from Southern Illinois University and has taught classes every semester of his 18-year career.
White began his coaching career in football, track, cross country and wrestling at Gulf High School.
