Lt. Wysocki named Florida's Citizenship Teacher of the Year

GULF HIGH SCHOOL, Jan. 26, 2005. -- Lt. Raymond J. Wysocki, senior Naval Science Instructor in Gulf's NJROTC program, has been selected the Citizenship Teacher of the Year by the Florida Veterans of Foreign Wars. He will attend the state VFW convention on January 29 to receive the state award.

Lt. Wysocki had been nominated by VFW Randolph Post 7845 for District 21 Citizenship Teacher of the Year for grades 9-12. He received a plaque and a $100 award from that post. He subsequently won the District 21 award, which included a plaque and $200, and finally was selected as the winner by the state VFW organization.

The Florida VFW will submit Lt. Wysocki's name for the national competition.

Lt. Wysocki grew up in North Dakota. He received a B. S. degree from the University of the State of New York and obtained a commission as an officer at Officer Candidate School, Newport, Rhode Island. He served aboard the submarine U. S. S. Caiman and several ships and various shore commands including naval stations at Philadelphia and Patuxent River, Maryland. He describes his favorite duty station as the Navy Cargo Handling Group, as it took him to such places as Korea, Thailand, and Antarctica. He retired from active duty in March 1996. He is married to the former Jean Furci.
