Meeting called to Order

      

Meeting was called to order at 6:02 pm by Sherry Giunta, Chairperson.

Now, more than ever, it is important that each student have a carefully planned and challenging course of study. As a link to FACTS.org, middle and high school students may wish to complete their ePersonal Education Planner or ePEP and map out their courses. This program enables middle and high school students to plan and think about their goals after high school. ePep allows students to explore  their career interests now that will help direct their educational path.  

Course Registration Book – Mr. Imerson

The 2007-08 Gulf High School Course Registration Book is available online at the school’s website; www.gulfhigh.org. It describes all of the courses which will  be offered next year and provides other information for students and parents.

FCAT Focus Groups – Mr. Imerson

Focus (reading) groups will continue to meet after FCAT test dates. The focus groups will continue to work on strategies that address the lowest 25%  performing students. FCAT is scheduled for February 26th & 27.

Community Service Fair – Mrs. Trapp, Mrs. Wallace

Gulf High School is proud to host its first community service fair. Service hours are not a graduation requirement; however, they are an important component of  the IB programme. Community service also helps when applying to colleges or  for scholarships

Some of the agencies schedules to participate are the Kids Wish Network from Holiday, the Life Care Center of New Port Richey, the Center for Independence in Hudson, the Pasco County Parks and Recreation Department, the American Red Cross, the Healthy Start Coalition of Pasco County, Deaf and Hard of  Hearing Services of Florida, Hernando-Pasco Hospice, United Way of Pasco,  Habitat for Humanity and Big Brothers Big Sisters.

IB Update – Mr. Imerson

Les Phillips and Carol Kennedy-Dickens, two officials from the International Baccalaureate North America programme visited Gulf High School on November 28th. They met with school and district officials, teachers and students in our PIB learning community. The visit is part of the process of obtaining approval from  the International Baccalaureate Organization for a diploma program at Gulf. Final approval is expected early next year. The programme has received approximately 105 applicants for the 2007-2008 school year.

Other Items

Business Development Week, January 22-27. Open to the Public. The week is filled with various sponsors and numerous workshops for the public to attend.  Brochure proved to committee.

The DSPC invites the community to learn and explore important issues regarding the education of our youth. “Realizing Our Vision”, Thursday, January 25th at the Center for the Performing Arts at River Ridge High School.  Copy of invitation provided to committee.
