Meeting called to Order

Meeting was called to order at 6:04 pm by Sherry Giunta, Chairperson.

Acceptance of Minutes

Minutes from January 22nd & February 12th meeting – motion to approve, seconded, and passed.

High School Vision – Mrs. Buono

Mrs. Buono maintains membership on the District level High School Planning Committee. This committee oversees the planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluation of the high school improvement processes. She provided and reviewed a handout on Pasco County Continuous Improvement Plans: School Year 2006.

Mrs. Buono reviewed the numerous Federal, State, and District requirements of the plan in relation to reading reform & remediation, addressing high student achievement, as well as, addressing the needs of the lowest 25%, FCAT, alignment of the Sunshine State Standards and aligning school improvement with accountability requirements.

Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP) – Mrs. Buono

Mrs. Buono provided and reviewed a self-analysis in regards to continuous progress for school improvement. The handout provided short & long term goals, descriptor of goals, school based evidence as indicators of success. Mrs. Buono spoke briefly of the newly formed School Improvement Committee (SIP). This committee purpose is to review District/State goals, review past CIP goals, formulate & conduct a needs assessment survey and review findings. Findings will be integrated with legislative mandates, as well as, District guidelines.

Course Registration – Mrs. Buono

Mrs. Buono announced that the course registration process is running smoothly. During the past few months the guidance counselors have been busy with registration for the 2007-2008 school year. Presentations about course cards were given through 9th grade science classes with 10th and 11th through history classes. Students were then given the time to discuss their course selections with their parents and teachers. Each student was able to sit down individually with their guidance counselor to review their selections and turn in their card. GHS is the only high school in which guidance counselors sit individually with each student.

Open Forum

Mrs. Wallace will be heading up “Operation Shoebox” which will be collecting items for our troops from March 13th – April 13th. Collection boxes are located in the main office, media center, chorus room, and all social studies teachers’ classrooms. A handout was given of various suggested items.

IB Update – Authorization is expected in mid-April. Current figures estimate approximately110 applicants with 95 being accepted into the program thus far.

FCAT testing, both SSS & NRT went smoothly. Most of the students were tested in the Activity Center. Kudos to Mrs. Waide for her tremendous efforts!

Open House for incoming 9th graders is schedule for Thursday, April 12, 2007.

Graduation will be held at the Calvary Chapel Worship Center Auditorium on May 25th. The rental contract has been completed.
