Minutes – September 11, 2006
Meeting called to Order
Meeting was called to order at 6:03 pm by Mr. Imerson, Principal.
Introduction of Members
Members in attendance were asked to introduce themselves and their affiliation with the school and committee.
Election of Chairperson& Secretary
Nominations for Chairperson: Diane Bartow – declined and Sherry Guinta – accepted. All in favor of Sherry Guinta as Chairperson, seconded, passed and accepted. Sherry Guinta takes the Chair.
Nomination for Secretary: Jeff Serletic - accepted. All in favor of Jeff Serletic as Secretary, seconded, passed and accepted.
Acceptance of Minutes
Minutes from May 8th meeting- motion to approve, seconded, and passed.
Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP)
Committee members received a copy of the 2006-07 CIP Plan that outlined goals, objectives, and strategies in the areas of Student Performance (3) and Parental Involvement (8).
After a brief discussion, member Mike Roza asked if the committee could possibly explore other goal areas. In response, Mr. Imerson stated his concern with District goals and objectives, along FCAT mandates regarding writing skills and meeting the reading needs of students in all content areas, as well as, addressing the needs of the lower performing students. Mr. Imerson also stated if the committee chooses to do so other goals areas will be placed on the agenda for review before year-end.
Jennifer Wood, Literacy Specialist briefly discussed the county’s current approach to school improvement the Learning Focused Strategies (LFS) program. The program designed by Max Thompson provides teachers with thehighest possible quality professional development.The program uses a research-based framework with support solutions that connect teaching strategies to teacher planning and focuses on exemplary learning and instructional practices.
Lottery Budget
Mr. Imerson presented to the committee a proposed lottery budget of: $18,230.00. After looking over the budget, Jennifer Wood (LS) and Tina Wallace, Media Specialist asked if funds may be allocated to the reading program for classroom libraries. The proposal was brought to a motion, seconded and passed.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Update
IBNA site visitation scheduled for Monday, November 27, 2006.
Dr. Lepley is currently recruiting for the PIB program and is scheduled to speak to current 8th grade classes in West Pasco from October 17-31st. Feeder middle schools to include: Gulf Middle, River Ridge Middle, Chasco Middle, Bayonet Point Middle, Paul R. Smith Middle, Hudson Middle and Seven Springs Middle.
Dr. Lepley has also scheduled informational sessions for both parents and students at each school from November 2 – December 4th.
Calendar of events for the PIB learning community and student applications for the pre-IB program are posted on the GHS website.
Meeting Dates
The following meeting dates have been agreed upon by the committee for the 2006 – 2007 school year. Meetings will be held in the Media Center at 6:00 pm, unless otherwise informed.

Other Items
Learning Focused Strategies (LFS) training - total of 4 days of training. Some faculty members volunteered for the training over the past summer. All faculty members and school administration will complete the training by year-end 2007.
Soda machines - Pepsi machines around campus no longer dispense carbonated beverages and were replaced with a variety fruit drinks and water. Oddly, sales have increased by 50%.
Gulf High School is to be honored at the next scheduled School Board meeting on October 18, 2006. GHS is the only Pasco school to win all three awards from the Florida Department of Education: Five Star School, Golden School and Silver School Awards.
