GHS News / Parent Survey

The District School Board of Pasco County is now one of four counties in the state to be approved for SACS accreditation on a county/school board basis, instead of individual schools going through the tedious process.

Due to the integration of the Pre/IB programme, Gulf High has revised its mission statement to provide a more cultural understanding. The mission statement can be found in every classroom, student planner, and the GHS web site.

The Physical Education locker rooms have been approved to receive new lockers. The PA system at Des Little Stadium also has been approved to be replaced, as well as, addition of handicapped accessible bleacher stands.

A new SRO has been assigned to Gulf High. His name is Sergeant Bob B r i s s a e who is replacing transferred Corporal Spitzer. We welcome Sergeant B r i s s a e to the GHS family.

Tina Wallace, Media Specialist presented some good news. Due to the many outdated discarded media books and the implementation of the IB programme she was able to apply for a library book grant through the District and received approximately 8,000.00 for expenditure of new books.

The GHS Marching Buccaneers brought their adventures on the high seas to River Ridge High School for the annual Florida Bandmasters Association's District 5 Marching Performance Assessment. They performed music from the movie "Hook", "Sailing, Sailing", "Mambo at Sea in B flat", and the theme to "Pirates of the Caribbean". Their performance earned them a 'Superior' rating in every category, which is the second year in a row they have accomplished this.

On October 30 and November 2nd parents and students with an academic Improvement Plan (AIP) attended an informative meeting presented by various faculty members.

Mrs. Rosemarie Lowery-Christie presented good news that Gulf High, along with Mitchell High, Zephyrhills High; Ridgewood High in conjunction with Marchman Technical will be part of a new Health Careers Academy. The four local area schools will received over 140,000 for curriculum development, training, and equipment to implement the academy. The Health Careers Academy is a division of one of our learning communities, the Institute of Health and Human Services. Our partners in the Academy include the Central Florida Institute in Palm Harbor, Community Hospital in New Port Richey, Gulf Coast North Area Health Education Center, Life Care Center of New Port Richey, Meadow Lane Surgery Center, Morton Plant Mease-North Bay Hospital in New Port Richey, and Pasco-Hernando Community College.

Parent SAC committee members were asked to complete a survey in regards to the professional dress of the GHS faculty & staff.
