Student Services
Meet your Student Services Team . . . .
The Student Services Team are trained professionals ready and willing
to assist you. The team consists of Guidance Counselors, the School
Resource Officer, and the Career Specialist. An additional invaluable
resource is the Itinerant Team. We serve as an integral part of your
child’s success. Meet the Itinerant Student Services Team.
Susan Girardi, RN, has been GHS’s Nurse for 21
years, identifying and meeting the health needs of students and
families. She provides health screenings, counseling and health
information and referral. She provides Health Education to students,
teachers and parents. Mrs. Girardi works with the school’s ABC (Assist,
Believe & Care) program and serves on the District Crisis Team. She
is at GHS on Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday and can be reached at 774-3356.
Wendy Kall, MSW, LCSW. Ms Kall is a Licensed Clinical Social
Worker and has worked at Gulf High School for many years. She is
available to students for individual counseling, group work and family
consultations. Ms. Kall has a specialty training in trauma debriefing
and is a District Crisis Team member. She is a resource for community
resources, particularly in the areas of mental health, ungovernable
teens and economic resources. She serves GHS on Monday - Wednesday and
can be reached at 774-3340.

Being a parent is the most difficult task in the world. We
commend you
for all of your efforts in assisting your child to be successful, in
school and in life. Sometimes the challenges are too great and as a
parent, you may be dealing with many issues yourself. If you have
concerns, read below for more information.
Do you ?

- Notice your child is changing friends and beginning to
disobey curfew rules, or seems disinterested in things s/he used to
enjoy doing?
- Worry that your child is becoming sexually active and s/he
doesn’t want to talk with you about your concerns?
- Have a traumatic event that has occurred in your or your
child’s life for which you would like him/her to receive counseling?
- Fight with your child daily to attend school ?
- Want your child to be academically challenged when school
seems “boring” or “too easy”
- Have health or medical issues that are affecting your
child’s attendance or learning?

What Should I
Do If?
- I suspect there are drugs in my child’s room? Search
the room, use random drug screen
- What if the child will not go with me? Take a hair sample
- What if my child will not get out of bed in the morning? Take
away things of value/privilege
- What privileges can I take away? Anything that is not a
basic need - food, clothes, shelter
What Can I Do
?
- Remove - TV, computer, sound systems, phone, beeper,
special clothing items, car keys, lock from bedroom door, privileges
(weekend out, phone and TV time, etc.), drivers license
- Don’t be afraid to ask where your child is and check to
be sure they are there !
- Remember to be consistent, follow through, make the
consequences fit the crime and don’t make idle threats.
- Know your child’s friends.
- Listen, listen, listen.
What About
School Problems?
- What can I do if my child is skipping classes/school?
Monitor his/her attendance by calling the main office
during school hours 774-3300
Tell your child you will come to school with him/her and attend classes
Have your child bring home an attendance report each week (available in
office)
- What if my child is not doing well in school?
Have your child bring home weekly progress reports
(available in office)
Call school and talk to the teachers or e-mail your child’s teachers
Use a behavioral / academic contract
Limit your child’s work hours
- What about tutoring?
Ask your child’s guidance counselor for a list of private
tutors
Teachers are available both before and after school to assist with
tutoring needs
Contact anyone on the Student Services team to discuss
your concerns.
